"Building foundation for future growth” - this is the title of Raben Group's Sustainability Report for 2024. The logistics operator proves that irrespective of market challenges, it is worth continuing sustainability efforts since if they are carried out consistently and with commitment, they produce excellent results.
When the economic environment and geopolitical situation are turbulent, sustainability may sometimes be put on the back burner. However, not at Raben Group. The company did not slow down in 2024 and had good reason not to do so - certain targets announced in the ESG strategy should be achieved already in 2025. Like many European companies and the TFL industry, Raben faced numerous challenges. Nonetheless, as a large and stable operator with many years of experience, it closed the year with an increase in revenue, while additionally preparing to launch operations in its sixteenth market. As of April 2025, the new company Raben Sieber in Switzerland is part of Raben Group, so that the operator's services will cover all DACH countries.
- At Raben, we combine business growth with responsibility for the future - not only for our customers, but for the entire ecosystem we are a part of. Therefore, while working to achieve financial results, we must not lose sight of other objectives concerning corporate governance as well as our environmental and social impact. All this - in line with the title of the latest report - builds the foundations for future growth, which should be based equally on the effectively implemented business strategy and the ESG strategy - says Ewald Raben, CEO Raben Group. - We are part of a global value chain, and our actions allow us to engage our suppliers in sustainability on the one hand and support our customers in fulfilling their own commitments on the other.
2024 witnessed the achievement of all five sustainability goals entered into the SLL (Sustainability-Linked Loan) agreement:
Reduction of emission intensity in buildings and warehouses - 79.9% (target: 27.5%)
Reduction of emission intensity in transport - 7.5% (target: 7.5%)
Share of heavy goods vehicles meeting environmental standards (EURO standard) - 96.6% (target: 87%)
Share of women in managerial positions - 33.75% (target: 33%)
EcoVadis score - 71 points (target: 67 points)
The EcoVadis score resulted not only in a silver medal for Raben Group, but also in a place in the top 2% of the most advanced road transport companies. In addition, Raben Group adopted more ambitious decarbonisation targets and commited to reduce Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 60.4% by 2032 and to engage 79% of subcontractors in decarbonisation efforts (by 2027).
- The Sustainability Report is an excellent tool to inform stakeholders about our commitment in ESG areas. However, it is also an opportunity to simply talk about our achievements because in 2024 we made really good progress in many areas. The deadline we set ourselves for the individual goals is close at hand but we already achieved some of them in the past year. This is a great reason for us to be proud - says Ewelina Jabłońska-Gryżenia, Sustainability Director at Raben Group.
The most important Group-wide achievement is a 35.5% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions compared to 2020, as well as increasing the share of electricity from renewable sources to 96.3% (electricity secured by PPA agreement and certificates of origin and from own installations).
Green logistics projects also contributed to the success in reducing emissions. In 2024, more warehouses designed according to the Raben Group's environmental standard were commissioned in Białystok, Kalisz, Łomża and Wiskitki in Poland and in Regensburg in Germany.
The key challenge from the point of view of climate transformation invariably remains road transport. The logistics operator was also active in the field of electromobility, systematically developing both the infrastructure and the fleet (a planned outlay of EUR 20 million to date). In addition, Raben Group increased the use of biofuel: the Czech Republic and Poland joined the Netherlands, Germany and Austria, where it was already possible to refuel with HVO100 (a total of 12% of Raben Group's owned fleet uses this biofuel).
The most important pillar of Raben Group is its people, which is reflected in the Report itself. As a multinational company that employs more than 12,000 people in 16 European countries, Raben Group actively supports the respect for human rights throughout the value chain and the promotion of decent working conditions. The company is one of the signatories of the Responsible Trucking initiative working to improve drivers' working conditions. Invariably, a key theme presented in the Report is efforts to improve health and safety at work.
By taking care of health and safety, constantly integrating, motivating and improving the competences of its employees, Raben Group shows that people are a great value – simply People with drive.
